Makeup: Paint for the Face

With or without makeup, you're awesome!

All throughout my life, I've heard a lot of the issues that people have with makeup.

For instance, some think it's pretentious, as they assume that we are insecure and hide who we really are when we wear it.

While I'm not here to change anybody's mind about anything, I just wanted to put my personal perspective out there for anyone who enjoys using makeup, yet feels like s/he might be doing the "wrong" thing by devoting time and energy to something that's been called "superficial." Maybe you can relate to something here.

Personally, I don't see makeup as a MUST.

You don't need it to love nor accept yourself.

You don't HAVE TO wear it before you step outside.

Simplistically, I don't think that true beauty has anything to do with externals. What we choose to do with our appearance can say a lot about the kind of person on the inside, but I don't think that someone who is well-groomed--attractive though she may be to look at--is automatically the kindest or most compassionate person.

I also wouldn't go to the other end of the spectrum and say that this person is vain and selfish just because she looks good. That's more of a judgement than a fact.

Being well-groomed is what it is; the person took the time to look nice, but to assume he is either a "good" or "bad" individual because of this says more about the one doing the judging than the one being judged.

While it is true that makeup can be used to disguise what doesn't feel particularly flattering to you, like undereye circles and uneven skin pigmentation, I personally look at it more as a plaything than a lie.

I enjoy playing with makeup because I like being artistic, and if my face can serve as a canvas for this passion of mine, I'll take it. By all means, I'll gladly paint others' faces too, hahaha!

All those colors to experiment with...

All the looks to create and recreate...

Such thoughts make my blood rush through my veins, instead of merely flowing through them.

Besides, I don't believe that our personality is who we truly are anyway (as compared to the soul, which has greater depth). It's more of a tool to navigate through the world, and who's to say you shouldn't be bolder than you usually are, or more soft-spoken today as compared to yesterday, if it pleases you?

Makeup--along with other things, such as your hairstyle and your outfit--can assist you with getting into character for expressing your mood or using the world as your stage if you want to play out any fantasies. It is a tool that helps you look sophisticated one day, wild the next, and avant-garde next week, if that's your thing.

And if it isn't, that doesn't make those who do love it terrible people just because you don't share the same interests. How do we know that the person we've formed a negative opinion about based on our own issues isn't actually a really awesome person? Whether they are or they aren't is, more often than not, not even our business in the first place.

I'll be back on this blog soon. If you found this relevant and want more, you can click HERE for an older post along the same lines, and HERE for a vlog on the subject on my YouTube channel.

Wishing you a BEAUTIFUL day,
~Lea

What Matters Most

With my precious baby boy

When you get a wake-up call that threatens to turn your life upside down in quite frightening ways, you realize all the more what really matters.

You find yourself making choices that you wouldn't have made before, because your well-being depends on a new way of life now.

I can't assume that everyone who finds themselves in such a situation would feel or act the same way, but that's exactly what I've been experiencing lately.

Without going into to much detail so I don't bog you down, I've had to change my entire diet along with a bunch of eating habits. This wasn't a New Year's resolution--in fact, I hadn't made any. Yet, it was a necessary move if I wanted to stay alive.

I am grateful that the changes aren't just going to help me survive, they are actually going to help make my life much better, as I've chucked quite a few foods I used to have on a regular basis, if not everyday.

You might think, Oh, but you can go slow. Cold turkey's not necessary, but see, I just can't touch those foods anymore. The moment I have them, even in small amounts, my body reacts in ways I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Besides, it's not like I gave up healthy foods; what I've crossed off my list are items that aren't good for anyone to make a habit of eating or consuming anyway despite any pros there may be for ingesting them.

So goodbye, caffeine... Goodbye, refined sugars.

Since my list of foods from the past has dwindled considerably, now the only other option left to me if I want to get and stay better is to eat healthy foods in order to have a balanced diet.

We take something good for granted, and only start to realize how much of a blessing it was once we no longer have it, or something changes that we no longer have the same access to what we once had... even if only temporarily.

And now, all the more do I want to reserve my energy and attention for the things and beings that uplift me. Arguments and negativity in various forms only drain my time and precious energy. You really feel how sucked you are of your strength when you've gotten so sensitive due to these changes, that you want to devote what you do have to things that make you smile, in turn raising your energy.

The good news is, the changes I've made have been helping a great deal. While I still am in the process of stabilizing and getting used to this new way of eating, I am feeling much better than I did in the past few weeks, when my body started to signal to me its need for nutrients rather than empty calories.

I don't want to sound preachy, but I just have to say that in my experience, it's true: what you eat does matter. What you put into your body does make a difference. It took more than three decades for me to get that, but I think the lesson's finally sinking in. :)

So... how has your 2011 been so far? Here's to a really blessed (and more conscious already it seems!) year for those who want it!

Love,
~Lea

I am realizing that...

...every day on the planet really is a blessing.

Every moment we are alive, the opportunity to love, and perhaps make a difference for the better, exists.

You may have known this for a while now--as I have in my head--but these days, I am feeling it quite strongly.

If you stopped living and breathing, there would be a ripple effect--your life isn't the only one that would be affected; the existence of every one you are close to, or interact with, changes as well.

In that vein, here's to seizing the year ahead and living more fully. Just because we are here today doesn't mean we'll still be tomorrow.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2011,
~Lea

Going deeper, deeper... down deeper

In the process of cleaning up old posts on this blog, fixing broken links and whatnot, I came across my older posts on metaphysics and spirituality.

I feel the need now to share that part of myself again in case anyone out there is interested in the subject matter and has been waiting to read more.

In March of 2010, my fiancé and I attended a workshop on becoming professional hypnotists. I had known about the facilitator and his work since 1996, and had always wanted to meet him and his wife, who worked closely with him in taking clients back to the cause of any issue they wished to resolve or better understand. While I finally met them in 2006, it was another four years before I took the class on how to become a hypnotist myself.

Although I don't focus specifically on hypnosis in my metaphysical work, I can now offer my existing skills and services (which you can read about HERE and HERE if you want some background information) in conjunction with the hypnosis sessions my fiancé conducts.

I attended the workshop specifically to better understand myself, and I am really glad I went; since then, my fiancé and I have explored the reasons for why either of us have been challenged in certain areas. He's worked with clients in person and over Skype if they live in other parts of the country and the world.

The results of our sessions together are a little too private for me to reveal at this point--and what comes up in client sessions isn't for public disclosure unless we've been granted permission--but I at least wanted to reach out and let you know that you can work with us if you feel called to.

Who knows... if you've unsuccessfully tried a variety of methods to find a solution for something that's been bothering you, even perhaps to the point of debilitation... Maybe hypnosis can help you.

Unexplained fears and phobias are only one example of what can be dealt with during hypnosis. If there are any goals you have yet to achieve, discovering your blockages and then receiving powerful suggestions while you are in a very relaxed hypnotic state can propel you onwards.

Even if all you seek is a larger understanding of who you are and any other lifetimes your soul has experienced, a hypnosis session is one way you can do that. Getting in touch with parts of yourself you normally don't consciously access can grant you more insight into why you do the things you do and how you can make changes for the better in your life if necessary.

If you have any questions or want to get a more in-depth understanding of hypnosis before experiencing it yourself, I invite you to contact my fiancé, Matthew, on his Facebook page or through the website he's setting up for this purpose.

Since this is all I have time for at the moment, I'll leave off here for now, but may post more informative and detailed blog entries on the subject in the future.

♥ ,
~Lea

It may sound frou-frou, but...

My baby = Unconditional love

...I've found in my life that love is always the answer whenever I find myself challenged in any way.

And I'm not talking about romance or saying "I love you" to people we barely know just to create the feeling of closeness where we want it to be.
I'm talking more along the lines of compassion and acceptance.

...not forcing myself to feel these for a person or situation when it doesn't quite come naturally; rather, connecting with how compassion and acceptance feel to me, and allowing that to wash over any other thing I was feeling prior.

If you've heard of "Ho'oponopono," it's similar to what I'm talking about here. Go right ahead and explore the concept if it resonates with you, or uplifts you.

When you exude light, you have a greater awareness of, and openness towards, the good and the gifts all around and within you. Even when challenges show up, you know that they can be overcome one way or another, and I see this quality in the people I admire.
I'll be back when inspiration hits. In the meantime, I wish you well and all the best!

Would you come join me in L.A. for a fun day of beauty?

If I set up an inner and outer beauty workshop and informed you about it way ahead of time, would you be interested in attending?

While I have yet to finalize the agenda for just such an event, I plan on it being very informative and entertaining.

Also, what I mean by "inner and outer beauty" in case you wanted some clarification, is that the workshop won't focus solely on makeup application tips and the like. Metaphysical and spiritual (these are non-denominational, if you're coming across my work for the first time through this blog entry) activities to help you get in touch with yourself will also be included.

Depending on how things unfold from here on out, I very well could simply divide the workshop into two sections--one for Inner Beauty, the other for Outer Beauty. Thus attendees can conveniently decide if they want to participate in both or just one of the two.

After all, very soon now my sweetheart and I will be taking hypnotherapy training, the results of which we would like to share with those of you who are interested in a deeper exploration of your psyche. I also have a very dear life coach friend I'll be working in conjunction with to bring you a richer and more textured "Your Most Beautiful Life" experience.

See how there's a lot of ground to cover or possibly break down here for a workshop or a couple different ones even?

I know that eventually there will have to be a variety of workshops to accommodate all these offerings, but for starters, I'm really excited to bring you an event that introduces the gist of what I, my sweetheart, and my soul sister-friend are passionate about and would love to share with YOU!

I'll get back to you with specifics when I can, but you most certainly can let me know starting now if there's a chance you'll be at one of my upcoming events in 2010.

Looking forward to spending a fun day with you,
~Lea

Can I do your makeup, pretty please with whipped cream on top?! :)

Since I was little, I've loved beauty, glamour and The Arts.

In terms of expression during those much younger days, I particularly enjoyed sketching designs of outfits I came up with in my head, applying crayon makeup to Barbie and her friends in my coloring books, and wearing a different hairstyle to school everyday.

Some people thought these loves and behaviors of mine were weird and/or impractical, but my enjoyment of lovely things and the process of creating them remains to this day, and I embrace them with all of my heart!

After all, whether you and I share the same interests or not, we can coexist on this planet as long as we make it a point to never infringe on anyone else's rights or free will.

What's more, we can pretend to be someone other than who we really are inside, but that won't make our personal truth go away. For instance, I've played up other sides of myself--such as the intellectual, the mystic, the nerdy bookworm, the rebel, et cetera, et cetera--in the past to cover up both the artist and the beauty lover, but I eventually ended up feeling like a big fat walking lie.

...and I can't live like that. The voice of my Authentic Self has always been too loud for me to ignore.

In my experience, there were challenges in the beginning when I chose the path of being true to myself regardless of who would approve or disapprove, but you know, the disapproving ones disappeared from my personal reality the more comfortable I became with no longer having to hide who I am and what I fancy. In other words, the people surrounding me and, more importantly, my reactions to their reactions were all just reflecting back to me where I stood at the moment. Once I had no more need of certain reminders or life lessons, the people and experiences who were there for me to test out my responses to these automatically went away so they were no longer part of my life... OR they seemed to change so that I could actually enjoy them instead of being rubbed the wrong way by them.

So.

All that said, can I do your makeup pretty please?! :)

Whether you enjoy experimenting with makeup to enhance your natural beauty, or as a smoke and mirrors way to create different looks, I invite you to come play with me as Lea, the makeup artist.

If you need some help with looking extra stunning for a special occasion--like a wedding, huge movie premiere, prom or other party where pictures are going to be taken liberally throughout the event--I would love, love, LOVE to do your makeup!

If you've never seen my work before, you can go to my YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/LeaWhiteFeather to view some makeup tutorials created with love. If you like what you see and don't want to miss future videos, make sure you subscribe as there's so much more to come over there. And if you decide you want your makeup done by me or want my assistance with personalized lessons so you can learn how to do your own makeup flatteringly and with a professional touch, I invite you to get in touch with me HERE and I look forward to using your face as a canvas for one of the most enjoyable arts I've ever indulged in!

I currently work out of my own location, which is in Los Angeles, CA, so keep that in mind prior to setting up our makeup playdate.

All my best,
~Lea

I never believed working at conventional jobs is the only way to live well...

...in fact, in my experience and from what I've seen in many other people's realities, working for someone to pay the bills more often than not does just that--pay the bills.

And after that, there's not much else to life. Little joys here and there do surface, but your time is never quite your own and you may be short on energy to do the things that really, truly make your heart soar.

I am fully aware that despite subscribing to this philosophy, I've lived through moments when I appeared to be very financially challenged, not having a place to sleep for nights at a time and whatnot. Ironically however. these were the times I held a job and spent most of my time working, only to live hand to mouth.

On the other hand, the periods in my life when I was blessed with greater abundance all happened when I worked for no one but myself.

See, when I was feeling vulnerable I gave my power away to the concept that many seem to espouse. It goes something along these lines: "You have to work. It doesn't matter what job you get or if you don't like the jobs that are currently available to you. What matters is you do have a job so you can fend for yourself and are doing something with your life." And because I was feeling uncertain of myself then, I'd get a job even though deep inside it felt like something was terribly wrong.

While I have nothing but respect for folks who want to better the quality of their lives honestly and with integrity, I also know that breaking our backs for money to survive is not the only way we can be well provided for and pretty content with our lives. I've observed in my own life and in the lives of a growing number that we can spend our time the way we want to--with loved ones or indulging in our craft or artwork, for instance--AND have our material concerns more than taken care of as well.

I know that many may still resist this concept, but more and more are certainly actually LIVING it already nowadays instead of just dreaming about it. I won't go into figures and statistics here, but as people feel greater dissatisfaction with an economy they can't rely on to stay stable for their financial well-being, the ratio of people who are self-employed or who no longer depend on an employer to "pay the bills" keeps growing (why not do research to back this up though if you are interested in the subject matter?).

For further related reading, I HIGHLY recommend Busting Loose From the Money Game by Robert Scheinfeld. This isn't a paid endorsement; I genuinely practice the principles the author shares in the book and they work way more than well enough for me. I'm not trying to convince you of anything, nor am I saying that this is the only way that will work for everybody. I just feel inspired to put my experiences out into the world in case anyone who can benefit and is ready for exactly what I offer is out there, simply waiting to stumble upon it.

Who knows--in the future, I very well may facilitate workshops and events centered on my personal version of the Busting Loose approach, based off of my first-hand experiences. If you are interested in attending something like this or even simply learning more, please let me know and I will find a way to get the word out to you. We might start off with more blogs like these or vlogs on YouTube, if not both.

In any case, it brings me great pleasure to interact in some way with like-minded spirits who are ready and willing to lead their most beautiful lives yet!

Sending you lots of ♥ and ☮,
~Lea

I heard from many different people when I was younger that my love for beauty and The Arts was impractical and that I should focus on other things--guess what; others only have so much power over you as you give them. ;)

Dispelling Some Myths About Psychic Abilities

Shooting some of the footage for the "How to Give An Angel Card Reading" kit with Doreen Virtue in 2005.

I'd like to clarify some misconceptions about being psychic.

In my over ten years of being a professional intuitive, I've encountered people who thought that developing their spiritual skills would be a waste of time, based on their perceptions of those who claim to be psychic.

After all, if you read the life stories of the most successful intuitives and mediums, you will see how very challenged in life many of them have been at one point or another. This leads skeptics to question just how real these personalities' professed abilities are, as they appear to be unable to help themselves while stating they can assist others.

Have you ever experienced dabbing on some perfume and forgetting all about it, only to be told much later in the day that you smell good? This is comparable to not being able to see or sense everything about yourself despite having relatively well-developed psychic abilities--we aren't aware of everything about ourselves because we've become oblivious to a great part of our personal reality. A lot of the time we may be too emotionally invested in the outcomes we desire, and this interferes with how objective we are about our personal lives.

Besides, having a strong psychic sense does not guarantee that you see or know everything. One very popular misconception people have about intuitives is that they can see all there is to see. This is an assumption that may very well have been perpetuated by movies and TV shows.

While psychics can certainly tune in to anything, the actual information received and the way the psychic interprets it are another matter altogether. This explains why unfavorable occurrences are still a part of an intuitive's experiences in life.

You can be guided towards what you are ready to see; this is why you may receive a warning about some events but not others.

However, there are times in life when the only way left for us to learn is to fall flat on our faces. When this happens, it isn't because your abilities have failed you or the Universe is being harsh on you--on the contrary, if you've gotten to this point, there may have been numerous signs and messages nudging you to take the necessary steps vital to your well-being. If you have ignored these though, the energy that has built up with no outlet for expression has to manifest as something stronger (imagine a raging river that breaks down the barricade that was holding it back), hence your knock on the head.

On a soul level, we may also set up painful experiences to resolve karma or to help us understand certain things about ourselves we may not otherwise explore. See, having a strong intuitive sense doesn't automatically shield one from getting hurt.

The good news is, we don't have to continue along the path of pain once we've allowed our awareness to grow, and this is where nurturing our sensitivity to Spirit comes in handy. Having clarity on the inner workings of our lives helps us comprehend what is necessary to shift our perspective.

And you know what else is a misconception regarding psychic ability?

Being psychic isn't limited to a special few. Whether or not intuition was a part of your childhood, you can choose to acknowledge and develop it now. It's a natural part of who you are. Science is finally catching up to metaphysics, and with a little research you can find more and more empirical proof of psychic abilities. (See my previous entry on the subject by clicking on this link. Read this article to learn more about spiritual abilities and the brain.)

Regardless of where you personally stand on the matter, I am not here to convince anyone of my truth; I am just a messenger for those who share the same path but might need a bit of encouragement to move forward.

Until next time, love your life and allow your life to love you. Keep yourself open to all the good that is your birthright, including the spiritual guidance that will help you realize: You're more than just the five senses.

Maybe it's about time you began keeping a journal of your experiences with intuition...?

All my best,
~Lea

More About This Blog and Blogger

Yes, this is a beauty blog.

However... it is different from all the other ones which are classified under the same heading.

What sets this beauty blog apart from the rest is how it goes beyond discussing beauty products and makeup application techniques. Beauty in its familiar and more recognizable forms will certainly be touched upon in some of my posts, but so will metaphysics and spirituality. After all, inner beauty has a lot to do with one's spiritual practices and beliefs. Not to mention that metaphysics is a very huge part of who and what I, the blogger, am about.

Now I know I've already mentioned a little bit about my makeup artistry in the past. This time I am going to talk more about metaphysics in case any of you who follow my blog want some kind of background on it or my work with it.

Aside from being a writer and artist,
I am also a professional intuitive who gives private readings and facilitates workshops on the subject. The journey that led to that is a pretty lengthy one to document here, so you'd be better off reading it in its entirety in my book once it gets published.

In a nutshell however, I grew up with a heightened intuitive perception, which includes being able to read people's energy. "Read" means just that: I knew things about people just by coming into contact with them.

From a young age, I also knew or dreamt about things that proved to be true. Some of these related to events yet to happen, others were more of an indication that things were a certain way, such as someone possessing a particular personality trait, for instance. This has been helpful in confirming what I already felt or knew to begin with, or in at least keeping my eyes open to something I may have been blind to.

This ability has always been such a part of me. I never looked at it as a so-called supernatural skill, and only realized much later that others weren't quite as sensitive to energy, hence the need to label such a manifestation as something else, be it "weird" or "awesome."

I finally began educating myself on extrasensory perception and the like at great lengths once I started college, co-founding the first paranormal society at my university in the process. In my second year of college, I was the founding president of the organization. It was also at this time that I began officially giving other people readings. I taught myself how to use tarot cards, which I found hindered more than helped because the symbolism on the cards would pull me one way while my visions or sense of knowing would take me in another direction. I'm not saying the cards were wrong or misleading--I'm saying that what was making itself known to me came at a clearer and much more rapid rate than I could ever interpret the cards based on what they traditionally stood for.

That was in 1996. Since then, I have continued to learn everything I can about spiritual--aka "psychic"--abilities and metaphysical concepts. Other than reading all the books on the subject I could get my hands on, I've worked as an assistant to a prominent psychic researcher and have attended several workshops and seminars--such as Doreen Virtue's Angel Therapy Practitioner
® course--on further developing these soul abilities.

(The word "psyche" in Greek means "soul" or "mind." Hence "psychic" is "of the soul" or "of the mind," whichever you favor. It's not as mysterious or scary once you begin breaking it down into bite-size pieces.)

I've also studied healing, and am a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner. It's only one step away from being a Reiki Master, but I do not currently feel called to further this aspect of my spiritual studies.

Instead, I have worked on fine tuning my interpretation of energy and my ability to hear helpful and uplifting messages from Spirit. I do my best to put into words what I pick up so that my clients can understand the information I see and sense in all other ways.

If you are unfamiliar with metaphysics, suffice it to say for now that it's a branch of philosophy that explores the true nature of reality. Hence, when you're probing beyond what is visible, you're delving into metaphysics. When you wonder about your purpose in life, your soul's blueprint and other related matters, you're treading on metaphysical ground as well.

If you are interested in understanding yourself and your life better, or are committed to feeling more fulfilled, try looking outside of what you've believed all your life or were taught when you were little.

You just might discover that a much larger Universe exists outside of the one you've always known.

As for my story, there's a lot more to it, but I'll give us both a much needed break for now. In the meantime, you can look for me on Twitter but do check back here as the best is yet to come...!

What about you--in what ways have your God-given spiritual abilities and intuition played a role in your life?

Awakening to Your Dreams

Do you downplay your magnificence?

Not to say you should make it a point to tell everyone in sight how great you are--but do you engage in false modesty or see yourself as less than worthy of a life filled with blessings?

Regardless of what you have to say to that, take a look at your life to discover what the answer is. How you're living is testimony to what you think you deserve.

The good news is: It's never too late for change.

As the Henry Ford quote goes, "Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right." In other words, even if the most wonderful opportunities are available to you, you won't see them if you aren't open to them.

Admiring the good fortune of others does not have to be as good as it gets. You can improve the quality of your life, but you have to act on it rather than just dreaming about it. Don't let what others think of you stop you from moving forward with your life. Do you really want to continue being defined by names you've been called or opinions others have of you? Do you want to give your power away just like that?

Keep in mind that only you and that higher power known as God, Goddess, Source and the Universe (among other things) hold any power over your life. If it appears that others have any hold over you, it's because you've handed them the controls to some facet of yourself. If you're not happy about this, take back your power now. If you feel challenged as to how, look up exercises on cord-cutting and start living a more empowered life today.

After all...

Phoenix

Whoever said, "To teach is to learn twice," was spot-on.

My new blog is only in its baby stages but I can already feel my empowered self rising from the ashes.

See, when I was younger I was so excited to be on this Earth. I couldn't wait to be a grown-up and live a thrilling life that wasn't based off of someone else's template but was my own creation. Fast forward 25 years into this lifetime, and I guess you could say that the novelty of being on the planet this time around had worn off for me. I went from living an abundant life that I had indeed manifested to my delight, to living instead like many others seemed to be--struggling, hard up for food and money... I even went through a homeless phase, sleeping in the car and not knowing where to use the bathroom or take a shower next.

What a contrast that experience was from all my childhood and teenage dreams. For a few moments there, I felt incredibly broken because this was me--ME!--of the grand plans and the refined tastes going through some arguably unsavory times. You could say that my ego took one heck of a beating.

The process of both literally and figuratively getting back on my feet and retrieving my bearings took roughly 5 years, but you know what? I don't wish that any of what I went through never happened. While I have gladly reclaimed my birthright to all things wonderful--which is yours as well, if you want it--I wouldn't rather not have grown into who I am today and who I'm growing more and more into every day as a result of those experiences. That time in my life has given the service I offer the planet a flavor of understanding firsthand what it's like to be in such a challenging position.

With this post I am basically sending love and appreciation to all who benefit from what I do. Thank you for being part of my life. Without you, I wouldn't be putting my thoughts out into the world and hearing myself think out loud in the process. I am reminded of my Divinity with each moment I encourage you to remember yours.

Many blessings your way, dear friends. I'll talk to you again soon...!

Much love,
~Lea
